A LEG Up to horse sport!
California Riders Shine at Syracuse in Maclay Finals
Burbank, California. Throughout more than a month of championship
competitions at the various indoor shows back east, California
horses and riders sparkled. The east coast tour wrapped up with
the Syracuse Invitational and the Maclay Finals.
Nick Haness went into the final round in the lead. Unfortunately,
difficulty with the counter canter in the work off dropped the
talented rider to fourth, but Haness was thrilled. He brings
home two strong ribbons from the national equitation championships
(10th in the WIHS) to go with his USEF Talent Search championship.
Three other riders made it into the top ten. Adrienne Dixon,
who finished third in the USEF Medal Finals, earned a solid
7th place finish in the Maclay. To win a ribbon in one of the
national equitation finals is an accomplishment, but two ribbons
is quite impressive. Mallory Olson finished right behind Dixon
in 8th. Tina Dilandria rounded out the top ten. Dilandri rides
in the 14 & under age group and such a strong finish in
the national equitation finals portends a strong junior career
for this talented rider.
Four California riders made it into the top twenty five. Zazou
Hoffman, who is originally from California and now lists New
Mexico as her official residence, finished 13th. Hannah Selleck
finished 16th and Lucy Davis, another 14 and under rider, was
18th. Nicole Husky was thrilled with her 20th position as she
balanced first year college studies with trips east.
Other highlights of the indoor east coast shows included John
French winning the Professional World Champion Hunter Rider
Finals. Amateur rider Leslie Bulechek, who trains with French,
won a number of top honors with Vida Blue. Archie Cox’s
horses and riders earned multiple tri-colors in various hunter
sections. Finally, the Zone 10 Prix des States tied for the
bronze medal at the National Junior Jumper Championship at Harrisburg.
Zone 10 has won the team gold medal nine times in the event’s
26 year history.
